Whether you want to tease a Luxembourgish friend of yours or you are truly upset with someone for being incompetent or silly, here are three inherently Luxembourgish words with the meaning idiot:

Topert/Dabo/Eefalt.

You can use them like this:

  • Wat bass du een Topert/Dabo/Eefalt. (You are such an idiot.)

  • Oh, wat ass dat een Topert/Dabo/Eefalt. (Oh, he’s such an idiot.)

I find it quite telling that all three words take the masculine gender. Enjoy, but be careful not to upset anyone.
